The nutrition advice was designed for and from Western populations. The meal plans use foods you have never cooked. The portion guides make no sense for the way your family eats. The doctor gave you a leaflet with nothing to do with your life. You are not imagining it.
Chronic disease is the defining health crisis of our time โ and people of African heritage bear a disproportionate and largely unaddressed burden. Maitano was built to change that.

The problem is not the culture. Traditional African diets are metabolically protective. The problem is the absence of guidance that works within the culture.

Maitano is not a faceless platform. It was built by one person โ a Zimbabwean-American dietitian with over 25 years of practice, board certification in lifestyle medicine, and a medical research scientific advisory role โ who came back to the community that is truly who she is.

Eighteen years. A community. A purpose.
Early in her career Cordialis worked directly with the patients in American hospitals, providing nutrition guidance and building nutritional programs. After losing her mother to complications of high blood pressure, she steered her attention to African families and diaspora communities in the United States navigating chronic illness and seeking better health. That work launched everything. For eighteen years she built The African Pot Nutrition โ serving the community, building clinical expertise, and earning the trust that Maitano is built on.one of the most trusted healthcare providers in the area.
In those sixteen years Cordialis saw something that changed how she understood health entirely. She saw people with genuinely excellent diets not getting better. Blood pressure still elevated. Metabolic markers not moving. Not because the food advice was wrong โ but because sleep, stress, movement, and connection were being left completely unaddressed.

THE TRANSITION
For several years Cordialis moved into contracted work with organisations and companies โ bringing culturally grounded nutrition and lifestyle medicine into institutional settings. Important work. But a different kind of work. And something kept calling her back. The community. The people this was always meant to serve.
Maitano is that homecoming. Not a rebrand. A return to purpose.
