Maitano (ma-eeee-tah-no) is an innovative  health company that makes healthy living the easy choice by offering evidence-informed culturally-inclusive nutrition and lifestyle medicine programs and coaching that help  African ethnic  populations  prevent, manage and when applicable reverse chronic/noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and hypertension.    

Inspired by the  Swahili word "Maisha" meaning "life "and  the Shona word for health, "Hutano,", Maitano takes pride in assisting people live a healthy, (happy) life without giving up their cultural beliefs, foods and beneficial practices that make them who they are. 

   Through  in-person and virtual (telehealth) programming,  as well as the Maitano Academy- an extensive library of health resources, tip sheets, handouts and self-paced nutrition courses, we help people identify the factors that are making them sick and empower them with the skills they need to prevent, manage and when possible reverse NCDs, oftentimes eliminating or reducing the need for medications and reducing medical costs.   

We understand that knowledge alone is not enough to influence change and our Maitano Kitchen teaches people the basics they need to know to prepare a health-producing diet that does not break the bank.  

  With research indicating increased health outcomes when someone has support, we leverage our  virtual support app and shared appointment platform  to not only facilitate a high touch, safe environment built of encouraging peers and healthcare professionals but also one that offers affordable access.
